In Vilnius, we have introduced a new interactive street element:
it’s a Street Blog, where every passer-by can leave a message,
“post” a picture or take part in discussions.

We also call it Web_0, keeping in mind
a direct, off-line, pre-internet communication,
which is still based on the imitation of the internet platform (a blog).
As a part of the project, we have initiated
an “archaeological” investigation of other Web_0 forms:
notice boards, correspondence between neighbours in the houses, etc.
There is a blog and facebook page for this project,
though the main language is lithuanian at the moment,
there is a visual material material, so no translation is needed
We’ll be glad if you join the investigation, contributing visuals
on Web_0 phenomenon (off-line written communication).

The project looks very interesting. What kind of people usually leave posts on your Street Blog?

there are posts by three and sixty years old passers-by
but the most active audience is 12-35 years old -
actually those, who are acquainted with blog format.
in lithuanian “blogas” means “bad”, but as internet
blogs appeared, a blog became “blogas” in lithuanian [!]
that’s why for some elder people in Lithuania “blog” has got a negative connotation and they need some explanations about this street object :]

it’s a shame this project was not part of the discussions on the internet and the city we had recently in vilnius – it would have been a great extension to those ideas.

at least there is a draft of presentation on Web_0,
which was sent to the participants of the seminar.
